Learned the bird that I mentioned landing on the mustard stalk is a purple finch. They were transplanted east as caged songbirds, then mass released when wild birds became prohibited.

Found that cardinals will eat Japanese beetles, so maybe next year won't be so bad. I transplanted a sucker off my rose, we'll see how that does next year. I've had lots of dragon and damselflies this year, and was seeing a yellow swallowtail butterfly in the yard.

For the second time I've moved the tender plants into the garage, and one pot is wearing a blanket. Big clay pot is just too heavy. A few plants have already returned to the bathroom they over winter in.

A small sunflower came up, likely planted by a squirrel.
